Milestone College reopens 12 days after plane crash, classes to resume Wednesday

Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara area has reopened today (Sunday), 12 days after a tragic plane crash struck one of its buildings.

However, regular academic activities and exams have not yet resumed. Instead, the institution organized a memorial event to honor those who lost their lives in the disaster.

The gathering was attended by students, teachers, and family members of the deceased and injured.

Shah Bulbul, the college’s public relations officer, said the memorial ceremony paid tribute to the victims and included prayers for the recovery of those who were injured.

He added that a series of support programs is being introduced to help students cope physically and emotionally.

College authorities stated that their current focus is on gradually helping students return to a sense of normalcy.

To aid in this effort, the Bangladesh Air Force has set up a medical camp on campus, offering both physical and psychological counseling to students and staff.

College Principal Mohammad Ziaul Alam informed reporters that classes for grades 9 to 12 will resume on Wednesday, August 7, starting from 8:30 AM. He added that academic activities for the remaining classes will be restarted gradually based on the situation.

Additionally, a three-month-long counseling program will continue to support students in recovering from the trauma of the incident.

On July 21, at 1:06 PM, a training aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed into a two-story building of Milestone School and College in Uttara’s Diabari area.

The aircraft caught fire immediately after impact. The disaster claimed the lives of 34 people, including students, teachers, staff, and parents. Since the crash, the institution had remained closed.
