Former Shibir leader arrested with fake notes

Police arrested three individuals, including a former leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, with counterfeit currency amounting to Tk 31,000 during a raid on a passenger microbus along the Chittagong-Cox‍‍`s Bazar highway.

The operation took place around 4:30 PM on Saturday in the Chunati Jangalia area of Lohagara upazila.

The arrestees include Md. Moddashir, 25, his 17-year-old sister, and their cousin. Moddashir is a former general secretary of the Ukhia upazila unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir, confirmed by current general secretary Saiful Islam.

He stated that Moddashir has not held any official position in the organization since December.

According to Sub-Inspector Shariful Islam of Lohagara Police Station, the three were transporting the fake currency from the Rohingya camps in Ukhia to Chittagong for distribution.

Acting on a tip-off, police recovered 13 counterfeit Tk 1,000 notes and 36 fake Tk 500 notes from their bags.

A case has been filed against the suspects, and they were presented before the Chittagong court on Sunday afternoon.
