Broiler chicken prices have risen again across Dhaka, as persistent rainfall and waterlogging continue to disrupt supply.
Traders say prices have increased due to supply shortages caused by heavy rain and transportation problems. They warned that consumers may have to pay higher prices for a few more days if the situation does not improve.
A visit to several kitchen markets in Dhaka, including Karwan Bazar, Jatrabari, Tikatuli and Palashi, on Tuesday found the price hike.
Within just a week, the retail price of broiler chicken has increased by up to Tk10 per kilogram, with the meat now selling for Tk180–185 per kg. Prices of Sonali chicken, duck and eggs also vary significantly across the market.
Retail traders said continuous heavy rainfall and waterlogging in different areas have reduced the supply of chickens from farms to Dhaka`s wholesale markets, pushing up prices at the retail level.
According to the latest market prices in the capital, broiler chicken is selling for Tk180–185 per kg, Sonali chicken for Tk320 per kg, and layer chicken for Tk340–400 per kg.
