4 more children die with measles-like symptoms

Four more children have died with measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours, while 1,051 children were newly reported with confirmed or suspected measles during the same period.

The information was released today (Sunday) in the Directorate General of Health Services‍‍` (DGHS) latest measles situation report.

According to the report, although four children died with measles-like symptoms over the past 24 hours, no deaths from laboratory-confirmed measles were recorded during this period.

DGHS data show that since March 15, a total of 693 children have died with measles-like symptoms across the country. In addition, 95 children have died from laboratory-confirmed measles. This brings the total number of deaths associated with confirmed measles or measles-like illness since March 15 to 788.

Meanwhile, 113 children were confirmed to have measles in the past 24 hours, while 938 others presented with measles-like symptoms. In total, 1,051 children were reported with confirmed measles or measles-like illness during the period.

During the same 24-hour period, 888 children were newly admitted to hospitals, while 992 children were discharged after receiving treatment.

According to the DGHS, since March 15 the country has recorded 117,648 suspected measles cases and 14,431 laboratory-confirmed measles cases. Of these, a total of 100,137 children have been hospitalized, with 96,521 already discharged after completing treatment.
