Spain won the 2026 FIFA World Cup title with a 1-0 victory over Argentina after extra time. The final, held at New York–New Jersey Stadium, remained goalless throughout the regulation 90 minutes before Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute to hand La Roja the trophy.
Spain dominated possession and created the better attacking opportunities for most of the match. However, Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez produced a series of outstanding saves to keep his side in the contest.
Argentina`s task became even more difficult when midfielder Enzo Fernandez was sent off after receiving a second yellow card during stoppage time at the end of normal time, reducing the defending champions to 10 men.
The breakthrough finally came in the 106th minute when Torres found the back of the net. Lionel Messi`s side pushed for an equaliser but failed to break through as Spain held on until the final whistle to lift the FIFA World Cup trophy for the second time.
The victory marked Spain`s first World Cup triumph in 16 years, having last won the tournament in 2010. Meanwhile, defending champions Argentina saw their hopes of securing back-to-back World Cup titles come to an end as they finished runners-up.
