The High Court has questioned why an independent inquiry commission should not be formed to probe the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and members of his family.
During a hearing on a writ petition on Monday, the panel of Justices KM Kamrul Kader and Mohammad Ali issued the rule.
The cabinet, law, finance, and home secretaries have been given four weeks to respond to the rule.
In October 2021, advocate Ashfaquzzoha filed the writ suit on behalf of Supreme Court lawyer Subir Nandi Das.
The petitioner was represented in court by Barrister Abdul Alim Miah Jewel.
The writ seeks the court’s direction to appoint a committee to identify the people or institutions involved in the killing mission of Bangabandhu and his family members on August 15, 1975.
Almost after 21 years of Bangabandhu’s assassination, a case was filed in that regard. As a result, many of individuals involved in his killing could not be mentioned in the case because they had died by then, according to Barrister Jewel following the hearing.
