A day-long secretary-level meeting has been held to enhance economic cooperation by removing trade barriers between Bangladesh and India. The day-long meeting was scheduled for Monday, March 8 at Hotel InterContinental in the capital, according to a Commerce Ministry press release.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi is ardent regarding trade between the two neighbouring states. Trade between India and Bangladesh will set a new bench mark, he believes.
The two sides also discussed the existing tariffs and non-tariff barriers between the two countries, the imposition of India's anti-dumping duty on some Bangladeshi products and the possibility of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
The two sides also talked about expanding the number of border huts, expanding port facilities, developing regional communication systems and increasing the participation of the two countries in various regional forums.
Representatives of Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Industries, Ministry of Textiles and Jute, Ministry of Shipping, Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission, National Board of Revenue, BSTI, Roads and Highways Department, Export Development Bureau were also present in the delegation.
