Country's three private mobile phone operators have paid Tk2,78,25,000 as administrative fine due to the use of their
SIMs in illegal VoIP.
The telecom regulator, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), has imposed the penalty to the operators for the unauthorised use of their SIMs in the illicit call termination.
According to a media release issued on Thursday, Robi deposited pay order of Tk2.10 crore to the BTRC, while Grameenphone Tk52.50 Lakh and Banglalink Tk15.75 Lakh.
A Commission meeting, chaired by BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder, on April
10 directed the operators as per decision of hearing to deposit the penalty amount.
The regulator took the decision according to section 65 (5) of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulation Act 2001.
