In a major top-level reshuffle, the government has appointed new managing directors (MDs) and chief executive officers (CEOs) to the state-owned Sonali, Rupali and Agrani Banks.

The Financial Institution Division of the Ministry of Finance sent a letter to the chairmen of three banks on Sunday (August 14) to take necessary steps in this regard.
Each of the MDs has been appointed for three years.
On August 16, 2016, Obaid Ullah Al Masud was appointed to Sonali Bank as MD, Ansar-VDP Bank's MD Shams-ul-Islam to Agrani Bank as MD and Probashi Kalyan Bank's MD Ataur Rahman Prodhan to Rupali Bank as MD. After serving three years as Rupali Bank MD, Ataur Rahman Prodhan was appointed as Sonali Bank MD for three years on August 20, 2019. On the same day, Agrani Bank's MD Mohammad Shams-ul-Islam was kept on the same post. Obaid Ullah Al Masud was given the charge of Rupali Bank MD.
In the mid-February of the current year, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) launched an investigation against the graft allegations of Sonali Bank MD Ataur Rahman Prodhan and Agrani Bank MD Mohammad Shams-ul-Islam.
Sources at the ACC said on Sunday night that the allegation against the Sonali Bank MD is he spent Tk 4 crore through irregularities and corruption in the Dhaka University Senate election when he was Rupali Bank MD.
On the other hand, the allegation against Agrani Bank MD is he laundered money acquired illegally through transfer of officials and employees, and taking bribes and unethical advantages approving loans. Because of it, the ACC summoned the bank account details of Agrani Bank MD and his wife, while a letter was sent to Rupali Bank seeking information about Sonali Bank MD.
