UNICEF and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) jointly launched a training program in order to build the capacity of garment factories in promoting the maternity rights of female workers.
The UNICEF-led Mothers@Work initiative aims to help protect the well-being of mothers and ensure that their children receive the early nutrition they deserve, said a BGMEA press release.
Mid-level management employees from the garment factories took part in the training program that was held at the auditorium of BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) in Dhaka on Sunday.
BGMEA Director Neela Hosana Ara attended the opening ceremony of the training program.
Participants are to receive training in seven minimum standards including paid maternity leave, breastfeeding accommodations, provision of breastfeeding breaks, flexible working arrangements, medical benefits, and provision of day-care facility.
