Big change for 7 government colleges: No more affiliation with Dhaka University

Source: Collected

Seven government colleges will no longer be affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) for first-year undergraduate admissions starting from the 2024-2025 academic year.

This decision will take effect from this year onwards.

The decision was made at an urgent meeting between the DU administration and the principals of the seven colleges, which took place today, Monday, in the DU Vice Chancellor‍‍`s office.

After the meeting, Professor Dr. Neyaz Ahmed Khan, the Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, shared the news.

Professor Khan explained that the separation of these colleges from Dhaka University had been officially decided.

This means that, starting from the 2024-2025 academic year, the colleges will no longer conduct admissions under DU.

The change is being made earlier than expected, as the previous plan had been to implement this after the next academic year.

The decision was influenced by demands from students, and the Ministry of Education had recommended the separation through a special committee.

This recommendation was strongly supported for implementation in the 2024-2025 academic year.

However, Professor Khan reassured current students, stating that those already enrolled in Dhaka University’s programs would not be affected by the change.

The university administration will continue to take responsibility for their education to ensure that their academic journey is not disrupted.

The seven colleges affected by this decision were originally affiliated with Dhaka University in 2017.

These colleges are: Dhaka College, Eden Women’s College, Shaheed Sohrawardy College, Kobi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women’s College, Mirpur Government Bangla College, and Government Titumir College.
