The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) on Thursday approved a Taka 9.22 billion budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 which was Taka 8.32 billion in the current fiscal year (FY22), reports BSS.
Allocation for research has been increased by Taka 4.05 crore to Taka 15.05 crore, 1.63pc of the total budget, in the FY23 against the current fiscal year's Taka 11 crore.
DU treasurer Md Mamtaj Uddin Ahmed placed the new budget in the annual session of the university senate with vice-chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair at the Sir Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban this afternoon.
Like the previous years, a big chunk of the budget will be spent for salary and allowances of teachers and officials-employees of the university.
Of the total amount, 29.59 percent has been allocated for salary, 23.74 percent for allowances, 19.51 percent for supply and service expenses, 19.51 percent for pension and retirement benefits, 2.31 percent for capital grants, 3.64 percent for other grants and the lowest 1.63 percent for research.
Altogether, 84.76 percent of the budget, that is about Taka 781.94 crore, has been sanctioned by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and 9.00 percent, or Taka 83 crore, will come from the university's internal sources while the rest Taka 57.54 crore or 6.24 percent has been showed as the deficit.
