Babul Kazi, the 59-year-old grandson of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, is in critical condition after suffering severe burns.
He was rushed to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka on Saturday morning around 7:00 AM.
Shaon Bin Rahman, a doctor at the hospital, confirmed the news.
He explained,
"We learned that at about 5:00 AM on Saturday, Babul Kazi was badly burned when a gas lighter exploded at his house in Banani. He has burns covering 74% of his body, and his breathing passages have been affected as well. His condition is very serious, and he is currently being treated in the ICU."
The Officer-in-Charge of Banani Police Station, Rasel Sarwar, told,
"We’ve heard that Babul Kazi, the grandson of Kazi Nazrul Islam, is in the hospital after the fire. The police are looking into the cause of the explosion at his home in Banani. We’re trying to find out what led to the fire and his injuries."
