Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina rebuffed the demands of anti-quota protesters, dismissing their movement as unjustified despite their continued demonstrations.
Speaking at a gathering at Ganabhaban on Sunday morning, she criticized the students involved, suggesting they were neglecting their studies.
Meanwhile, demonstrations by students aiming to abolish the quota system in government jobs and reinstate the 2018 circular persisted, with attempts to block roads across the country entering into a week-long programme.
On the same occasion, members of Jubo Mohila League, an affiliate of ruling Awami League, visited Ganabhaban to mark their founding anniversary.
During the event, Sheikh Hasina urged Jubo Mohila League members to stay vigilant against the potential return of the BNP and Jamat regimes.
She recounted the history of Jubo Mohila League since its inception following the 2001 general elections, highlighting its ongoing efforts to uphold the rights of the people.
In response to recent legal developments, including a Supreme Court decision upholding the High Court’s ruling on the quota system in government jobs, social media discussions and protests erupted, notably at Dhaka University and other educational institutions in the country.
