Ukraine war: Germany promises further €200 million in aid

Svenja Schulze, the German minister for development, informed local media that the government would send €200 million ($199 million) to Ukraine for projects aiding internally displaced persons.

The new aid package is intended to spearhead initiatives for internally displaced individuals. The president of Ukraine has warned that Russia is mounting an energy war against Europe, reports DW.

"The majority of our additional aid, €200 million, will go to a program administered by the Ukrainian government to assist internally displaced individuals," Schulze told Funke Media on Sunday.

"The funds are designed to guarantee that the displaced people in Ukraine can continue to meet their most fundamental needs," she continued.

On Sunday, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal will visit Berlin, where he will meet with Schulze and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Schulze stated, "I will discuss with Prime Minister Shmyhal how we might continue to assist the Ukrainian government in caring for displaced persons."

According to the United Nations International Organization for Migration, since Russia‍‍`s invasion began in late February, around 7 million Ukrainians have been displaced internally.
