Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that since the activities of the Awami League have been banned, the party will not be spared under any circumstances if it engages in any wrongdoing.
He made the remarks on Saturday (August 2) while speaking to reporters after visiting Mohammadpur Police Station in Dhaka.
When asked if there is any security concern centering August 5, the adviser responded, “By the grace of Allah, there is no reason for concern. With the cooperation and support from you all, we are confident there’s nothing to worry about.”
Responding to a question regarding reports that the Awami League is continuing covert activities and that even a military officer may be involved, he said, “Whoever is found involved—regardless of their affiliation or position—will not be spared. Everyone will be brought under the law.”
The home affairs adviser reiterated that since the Awami League’s political activities have been officially banned, any attempt by the party to commit unlawful acts will face firm legal consequences.
