July proclamation finalized, to be unveiled on August 5: Press Secretary

The interim government has finalized the draft of the much-anticipated July Declaration, which will be officially presented to the nation on August 5 at 5:00 PM.

The announcement came from Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, through a verified Facebook post on Saturday afternoon.

In his post, Shafiqul Alam wrote:

"The interim government has finalized the draft of the July Declaration. On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 5:00 PM, the declaration will be presented before the nation in the presence of all parties involved in the mass uprising. Further details will be announced shortly."

The July Declaration has been one of the most discussed political issues since the mass uprising of July last year. In the lead-up to the first anniversary of that event, the interim government has recently sent the final draft of the declaration to various political parties, including the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the National Citizen Party (NCP).

The draft includes 26 points. The first 21 outline the historical context of Bangladesh’s democratic and liberation struggles—culminating in the background to the July uprising. The remaining five points focus on the vision for democratic reform, calling for prompt justice for crimes committed during the Awami League’s rule, including enforced disappearances, killings, genocide, crimes against humanity, torture, and looting of public assets.

The declaration also emphasizes the rule of law, human rights, elimination of corruption and exploitation, and the establishment of a democratic system based on equality and justice.
