Two Supreme Court lawyers filed a writ petition with the High Court today, calling for the immediate release of six coordinators detained in connection with the anti-discrimination student movement.
The petition also requests a High Court order to prevent law enforcement from using firearms against students during their protests.
The writ petition was submitted by Aynunnahar Siddiqua and Manjur-A-Matin as a public interest litigation. It challenges the legality of the detention of the six coordinators and the use of force by law enforcement during the violence related to the quota reform movement.
Petitioners` lawyer Aneek R Haque indicated that the High Court might hear the petition later today.
