Toll collection from three bridges over the Dhaka-Mawa Highway will remain suspended on the day of Padma Bridge’s launch (June 25), to facilitate easy transportation to the opening ceremony.
The bridges are Buriganga (Postagola), Dhaleshwari and Arial Khan, Dhaka Tribune reports quoting officials of the Roads and Highways Department (RHD).
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, ordinary vehicles including vehicles carrying the invited guests will increase on that day to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the Padma Bridge.
Buriganga, Dhaleshwari, and Arial Khan bridges collect their tolls manually, which may lead to unbearable traffic jam. Hence, RHD sent a letter to the concerned authorities on June 9 proposing this step.
Meanwhile, trucks and covered vans will not be able to move on the highway connected with the Padma Bridge from June 24-26.
