A head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck on Dinajpur-Phulbari regional road in Panchbari area under Dinajpur Sadar upazila occurred early Friday, leaving five people dead and scores injured.
Though the identities of the deceased couldn’t be ascertained immediately, the dead included the supervisor and the helper of Nabil Paribahan bus, the truck driver, a child and a passenger.
The injured are now receiving treatment at M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital, said police.
Kotwali police station’s Officer-in-Charge Farid Hossain said the Thakurgaon-bound bus from Dhaka collided with the mango-laden truck by a refueling station on the regional road around 6am, leaving bus supervisor Rajesh Bahadur, the unidentified helper and trucker Hasu dead on the spot and 28 others injured.
The injured were rushed to the Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital where the child and the passenger succumbed to their injuries, the OC said.
The police station’s Sub-Inspector Hassan Mohammad Rubel informed that the front portion of the bus got shattered and the victims were rescued with the help of Fire and Civil Defence.
The vehicular movement resumed after the wrecked bus was removed from the road, he said, adding that they were trying to ascertain the identities of the deceased.
