The foreign minister said in the meeting, "780 million people did not have access to sanitation facilities in 2021, despite the fact that water services were available in 78 percent of healthcare organizations and 51 percent globally. In context of this, we need to take stronger steps than ever to ensure safe water, sanitation and hygiene for all in healthcare facilities worldwide".

Referring to the National Water Supply and Sanitation Strategy Paper-2021, the Foreign Minister said in the meeting, "About 98 percent of our people in Bangladesh have access to safe water, more than 80 percent of people have improved sanitation facilities and about 75 percent of people have been brought under hygiene facilities".

The Foreign Minister also mentioned that the outstanding progress of Bangladesh in the field of sanitation is being followed by many developing countries. Besides, he also highlighted the significant achievements of Bangladesh under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in ensuring safe water, sanitation and hygiene in health care centers for all the people of the country.

Dr. AK Abdul Momen presented some specific recommendations to the international community to address the lack of progress in water, sanitation and hygiene services worldwide.
