A new well has been discovered at the Bhola North Gasfield with the potential to generate 20 million cubic feet (mmcf) of gas per day, said a statement from the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources.
The new well will produce approximately one percent of the present of the current production, according to the statement.
Currently, Bangladesh produces approximately 2,200mmcfd of gas from domestic sources, against a demand of approximately 3,800mmcfd.
In 2018, the first gas well in the Bhola North Gasfield was discovered. The well has been explored by Gazprom, a Russian state-owned multinational energy concern, under the supervision of Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex).
The gas from Bhola, however, was not being used due to a lack of pipelines.
