Two hundred and sixtey-nine of the 299 elected MPs in the 12th parliamentary election own assets worth more than Tk 1 crore, according to Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan)
According to the report, the 269 elected lawmakers account for 90% of the total number of MPs.
Shujan said during a virtual press conference today that 200 of the 299 elected lawmakers are businessmen.
According to the report, the number of lawmakers with more than Tk 1 crore in assets is gradually increasing.
"Of those MPs, 193 have assets of over Tk 5 crore," said Dilip Kumar Sarkar, Shujan`s central coordinator.
Out of the recently elected legislators, 51 earned Tk 50 lakh annually, and 111 earn more over Tk 1 crore.
Shujan Secretary Badiul Alam Majumder said, "We have found in many cases that the declaration of assets and income are not matching their income tax returns."
The Election Commission and other institutions concerned should look into it, he said.
