The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has once again reduced the price of gold in the local market.
Under the revised rates, the price of 22-carat gold has been lowered by Tk2,683 per bhori (11.664 grams), bringing the new price to Tk262,265 per bhori.
Bajus announced the change in a press release on Saturday morning, stating that the updated prices came into effect from 10:00am on the same day.
According to the statement, the adjustment in the prices of gold and silver jewellery was made in consideration of the overall market situation, following a decline in the prices of pure gold and silver in the local market.
The decision was taken during an emergency meeting of Bajus’s Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring, which was held at 9:30am on Saturday.
As per the new price list, 22-carat hallmarked gold has been set at Tk22,485 per gram. The price of 21-carat gold is Tk21,465 per gram, while 18-carat gold has been fixed at Tk18,400 per gram. Meanwhile, traditional gold jewellery has been priced at Tk14,985 per gram.
Prices of silver have also been revised. 22-carat silver now costs Tk425 per gram, 21-carat silver is Tk320 per gram, and 18-carat silver has been set at Tk495 per gram. Traditional silver jewellery will be sold at Tk520 per gram.
Bajus added that the revised prices will remain effective at jewellery shops across the country until further notice. Buyers will also have to pay 5 percent VAT, which will be deposited in the government treasury.
