BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon leaders and activists of the party and its affiliated bodies to get ready to take to the streets.
He said: "Get ready to take to the streets. We must oust the government to establish a people's government."
"Nothing will happen if you (party men) can't take to the streets," he added.
He came up with the call while addressing a rally in front of the National Press Club on Tuesday afternoon, protesting the killing of Swechchasebak Dal leader Abdur Rahim during a clash between police and BNP men in Bhola.
He further said: "Awami League leaders said that hurricane lamps will be handed to BNP leaders. But the time has come for you (AL) to put the hurricane lamps in your hands. You won't get time to hold the hurricane lamps and flee through the back door."
At the time, when BNP men were shouting "hartal, hartal!", Fakhrul said "Take to the streets first, then hartal."
