Anurag Kashyap joins Bangladeshi film as producer

Internationally acclaimed Indian director Anurag Kashyap has officially joined a Bangladeshi film project as a co-producer. The film ‘Solo (Eka),’ directed by Indian filmmaker Suman Sen, is being produced by Bangladeshi production company Goopy Bagha Productions Limited. The news was confirmed by the company’s co-founder and internationally renowned Bangladeshi producer Arifur Rahman.

Arifur told The Report’s Showbiz team, “Kashyap and his production company Good Bad Films has officially joined our project as co-producers. Bijon (another filmmaker and co-founder of Goopy Bagha Productions Limited) will stay at Cannes for a little bit longer to sort everything out.” 

“I am currently at the airport returning to Bangladesh. Details of the project will be shared after I reach Dhaka,” Arifur added.

Previously, the official Facebook page of Goopy Bagha Productions Limited shared a photo of the team at this year’s Cannes Film Festival where Goopy Bagha Productions Limited. 

The photo featured Goopy Bagha Productions Limited’s founders Bijon Imtiaz and Arifur Rahman along with director Suman Sen, DW producer Dominique Welinski and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap at the 74th Cannes Film Festival.

Kashyap (director of 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and 'Sacred Games') recently made global headlines after announcing to direct the Bollywood remake of Tarantino's cult classic action film 'Kill Bill.'

 

Goopy Bagha's Afghanistan-Bangladesh co-production titled ‘Roqaia’ was also officially selected at the prestigious Venice International Film Festival back in 2019 and was praised globally. 

Arifur and his production company previously produced Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s debut film ‘Live From Dhaka’ which won the best film prize in the prestigious Singapore Film Festival in 2016 and was praised around the globe.

Saad is also attending Cannes as his second feature ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ became the first film to be officially selected in the prestigious festival.

On the other hand,  Goopy Bagha Productions Limited attended this year’s Cannes Film Festival with two projects. 

Suman Sen’s screenplay of ‘Solo’ was officially selected at the festival’s La Fabrique section and another project titled ‘Moving Bangladesh,’ which describes the incredible journey of the Bangladeshi startup Pathao, directed by Bangladeshi filmmaker Nuhash Humayun was invited to the Marche du Film segment this year. Both films are being produced by Bijon and Arif’s Goopy Bagha Productions Limited.

Previously, the screenplay of ‘Sand City,’ directed by internationally acclaimed Bangladeshi filmmaker Mahde Hasan, was officially selected at the prestigious La Fabrique segment of the Cannes film festival back in 2019.
