Twenty-four Chhatra Odhikar Parishad leaders and activists were sent to jail in a case filed for attacking two BCL activists on Friday (October 8, 2022).
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahidul Islam passed the order on Saturday.
Two complaints were filed against the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad by Central BCL Organising Secretary Nazim Uddin and Dhaka College BCL activist Aminur Rahman.
The Shahbagh police eventually detained 24 persons in connection with the two incidents. As part of the lawsuit brought by Nazim Uddin, they have also been revealed to have been arrested.
From the Odhikar Parishad's end, the claim was that they were conducting their program to remember the death of Abrar Fahad, the BUET student who was beaten to death by BUET BCL activists three years back in a pretty organized manner, and BCL men attacked them. They (BCL men) did not even spare those Odhikar Parishad activists taking treatment within the hospital.
Through press releases, five other political student organizations condemned the attack carried out by BCL members, including Bangladesh student dol, Bangladesh Chatro federation and more.
