Bangladeshi police officer arrested by BSF over illegal entry

Bangladeshi police officer Arifuzzaman has been arrested by the Border Security Force (BSF) for allegedly entering India illegally through the Kakdanga border in Satkhira.

Arifuzzaman previously served as the Assistant Police Superintendent (ASP) of APBN-2 in Muktagachha upazila of Mymensingh district. Prior to that, he held the position of ASP at Rangpur Metropolitan Police.

Satkhira’s Additional Police Superintendent Mukit Khan confirmed that Arifuzzaman had served in Rangpur Metropolitan Police as ASP before August 5 of last year.

He was later transferred to APBN-2 in Muktagachha, where he worked until October 13.

On October 14, he was temporarily suspended for failing to report to duty without authorization and had been absconding since then.

On Saturday evening, while attempting to cross into India near Hakimpur border outpost in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, he was detained by the BSF and handed over to the West Bengal Police.

Subedar Kamruzzaman of Kakdanga BGB confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
