Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, at least three flights en route to Dhaka were rerouted on Wednesday due to safety concerns, according to authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Citing the heightened risk of missile attacks near the India-Pakistan border, several airlines opted to divert or cancel international flights to avoid traversing potentially dangerous airspace.
Group Captain Muhammed Kamrul Islam, executive director of the airport, confirmed that the airspace over India and Pakistan was deemed unsafe, prompting the rerouting of multiple flights headed to Bangladesh.
Among the affected flights, Turkish Airlines flight TK-712/713 bound for Dhaka was diverted to Muscat International Airport in Oman. Jazeera Airways flight 531/532, which departed from Kuwait, was redirected to Dubai, while another Jazeera flight (533/534) turned back to Kuwait.
"The diverted flights have started arriving in Dhaka since this morning. Airport operations remain normal," said Kamrul Islam, assuring that services were continuing without disruption.
