Police have arrested Samir Hossain Mishu, a leader of the pro-Awami League physicians` organisation Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad (Swachip) and former treasurer of the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Bogura chapter, in a case linked to the July mass uprising.
Dr Mishu was arrested from a hotel in Sherpur upazila of Bogura late Tuesday night, according to police.
Sherpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge SM Moin Uddin said a police team conducted an operation at Hotel Muktel in the Dhunat Mor area around 11:30pm and detained him based on a tip-off.
Police said Dr Mishu had gone to the hotel to attend the birthday celebration of a physician friend.
Following his arrest, he was shown arrested in an attempted murder case filed with Bogura Sadar Police Station in connection with the July mass uprising, police said.
He was later handed over to Bogura Sadar Police Station for further legal proceedings.
Dr Mishu, son of late Dr Safdar Hossain of Bogura city`s Jaleshwaritala area, has held several key positions in the public health sector.
He previously served as acting Civil Surgeon of Bogura and also worked as Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer in Bogura Sadar.
At present, he is serving as Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer in Bagerhat Sadar upazila.
