Bangladesh has officially launched an initiative to develop its first integrated Civil Aviation Master Plan (CAMP), a long-term strategy aimed at guiding the country`s aviation sector over the coming decades.
The process began with a workshop titled “Civil Aviation Master Planning Overview” held at a hotel in Dhaka on Sunday, bringing together policymakers, aviation experts and industry stakeholders.
The Civil Aviation Academy Bangladesh, which holds ICAO GOLD certification, organised the event under the guidance of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the supervision of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).
Officials said the proposed master plan will serve as a comprehensive roadmap for the country`s aviation sector, setting priorities and development goals for the next 20 to 30 years.
The plan is expected to focus on a wide range of areas, including airport expansion, modernization of air navigation systems, growth of the airline industry, human resource development, aviation safety and security, environmental sustainability and the adoption of new technologies.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam said the initiative would help ensure coordinated and future-ready growth of Bangladesh`s aviation industry.
State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat and Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Fahmida Akhtar also attended the event, while CAAB Chairman Air Vice-Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq chaired the programme.
During the workshop, ICAO expert Mohamed El Amiri presented international experiences and best practices in aviation master planning. He highlighted the importance of long-term strategic planning to meet future demand and comply with global aviation standards.
According to officials, Bangladesh currently does not have a comprehensive national aviation master plan. The new initiative is intended to fill that gap and create a unified framework for the sector`s development.
CAAB expects the master plan to be completed within the next one to one-and-a-half years, with ICAO providing technical support and expert assistance throughout the process.
Representatives from the armed forces, government ministries, airlines and the broader aviation community participated in the workshop.
Officials described the move as a landmark step for Bangladesh`s aviation sector and the first formal effort to prepare an integrated national development blueprint for civil aviation.
