Gold prices see sharp drop in Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has decided to reduce gold prices in the local market. Under the new decision, the price of 22-carat gold has been lowered by Tk 5,482 per bhori (11.664 grams), setting the new rate at Tk 225,290 including VAT. The revised prices came into effect at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

BAJUS said the adjustment was made after a decline in prices of refined gold and silver in the international market. The decision was taken in a meeting of the Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring held on Wednesday morning.

According to the new price list, the per-bhori price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 215,142, while 18-carat gold is priced at Tk 184,758, and traditional (sanatani) gold at Tk 150,932, all including VAT.

The organization stated that these prices will remain in effect across all jewellery shops in the country until further notice. Making charges will apply depending on jewellery design. It also clarified that VAT is already included in the selling price, so no additional VAT can be charged from customers.

BAJUS further said that existing rules regarding exchange and purchase of gold ornaments—excluding VAT, labour charges, and stone value—will remain unchanged. A decision regarding VAT on silver ornaments will be announced soon.

Previously, on June 22, gold prices were increased by Tk 4,432 per bhori, setting the 22-carat rate at Tk 230,772 including VAT. At that time, 21-carat gold was priced at Tk 220,391, 18-carat at Tk 189,248, and traditional gold at Tk 154,606. Those prices also took effect at 10:00 a.m. on June 22.

So far this year, gold prices in the country have been adjusted 80 times—40 increases, 39 decreases, and one VAT adjustment. In 2025, prices were adjusted 93 times in total, including 64 increases and 29 decreases.

Meanwhile, silver prices have also been reduced. BAJUS cut the price of 22-carat silver by Tk 408 per bhori, setting the new rate at Tk 4,841.

Under the revised rates, 21-carat silver is priced at Tk 4,607 per bhori, 18-carat at Tk 3,966, and traditional silver at Tk 2,974.

This year so far, silver prices have been adjusted 48 times, with 24 increases and 24 decreases.
