6 Bangladeshi peacekeepers killed, 8 injured in Sudan terrorist attack

At least six Bangladeshi Army peacekeepers were killed and eight others injured in a terrorist attack on a United Nations peacekeeping camp in Sudan’s conflict-prone Abyei region, officials said.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attackers launched a sudden assault on the UN camp around 10pm, sparking intense gunfire inside and around the facility. The casualties were reported among members of the Bangladeshi contingent stationed there.

ISPR said the injured peacekeepers were given immediate medical treatment and their conditions were being closely monitored. The situation was brought under control through coordinated measures involving other units of the UN peacekeeping mission.

Officials added that security for the Bangladeshi contingent in Abyei has since been reinforced in view of the volatile situation, and developments are being kept under continuous observation.
