Sharif Osman Hadi, the spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and a candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections, was injured in a shooting by unidentified assailants. The incident took place on Friday in the Bijoynagar area of the capital, immediately after Friday prayers during an election campaign.
Hadi was rescued and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, according to Israfil Forayzi, one of the organizers of the July Unity.
Condemning the attack, Nasiruddin Patwary, chief coordinator of the National Citizens Party (NCP), said, `Like Hadi, our lives are also at risk. We could also be killed, but we want to continue the struggle with our lives.`
Regarding the incident, Mohammad Harun Or Rashid, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Motijheel division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said, `We have heard that he was shot in the Bijoynagar area. However, the matter has not been confirmed yet. We have sent a team, and once they confirm, we will provide detailed information.`
