Bangladeshi peacekeepers killed in terror attack in Sudan, ISPR identifies victims

Six Bangladeshi peacekeepers were martyred and eight others injured in a terrorist drone attack on a United Nations peacekeeping base in Abeyi, Sudan. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the incident.

According to a post on ISPR’s verified Facebook page on Sunday, the attack occurred on Saturday between 3:40 PM and 3:50 PM local time at the Kadugli Logistic Base in Abeyi, carried out by an armed separatist group using drones.

  • Lieutenant Colonel Khondkar Khalekuzzaman, PSC, Ordnance (Kushtia)
  • Sergeant Md. Mostakim Hossain, Bir (Dinajpur)
  • Corporal Afroza Parvin Iti, Signals (Dhaka)
  • Lance Corporal Mohibul Islam, EME (Barguna)
  • Sepoy Md. Mezboul Kabir, Bir (Kurigram)
  • Sepoy Mosa Umme Hani Akter, Engineers (Rangpur)
  • Sepoy Chumki Akter, Ordnance (Manikganj)
  • Sepoy Md. Manajir Ahsan, Bir (Noakhali)

ISPR stated that the injured peacekeepers are receiving necessary medical care. Sepoy Md. Mezboul Kabir, whose condition was critical, underwent successful surgery and is currently under intensive observation. The remaining seven have been airlifted for advanced treatment and are reported to be out of danger.

The Bangladesh Armed Forces strongly condemned the brutal terrorist attack. ISPR said the sacrifice of the martyred peacekeepers will be remembered as a shining and proud testament to Bangladesh’s commitment to global peace. Condolences were extended to the bereaved families, and prayers were offered for the speedy recovery of the injured personnel.
