According to Nasrul Hamid, state minister for power, energy, and mineral resources, the demand for electricity is rising by around 100 MW every day.
While speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a Dissemination Workshop on the final report of the "Multipurpose Use of Land for Renewable Energy Project in Bangladesh" at the city's Biduyt Bhaban on Tuesday, he said, "We're trying our best to manage the problem in many ways.
It is predicted by the power sector insiders that the country may experience more than 3000 MW load shedding this year in the coming Ramadan as the demand for electricity is growing fast.
Though the country’s power generation capacity is more than 25,000 MW, it can generate about 12,000 due to primary fuel shortage.
The government was compelled to halt the production of power using diesel because of the recent dollar issue.
Nasrul stated that the government will attempt to add roughly 1000 MW of solar electricity to the National grid within a year with regards to renewable energy.
Additionally, he stated that the government's goal is to progressively replace 13,000 irrigation pumps powered by diesel with ones powered by solar energy.
