Home Affairs Advisor, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, has urged students from the seven government colleges affiliated with Dhaka University to stop blocking city roads for their protests and instead move their demonstrations to Suhrawardy Udyan.

The call came after a meeting held at the Secretariat on Monday to discuss the country‍‍`s law and order situation. Jahangir Alam emphasized that blocking roads only causes unnecessary problems for commuters and the general public.

He said,

"I request you to hold your rallies in open spaces like Suhrawardy Udyan or any other suitable grounds. Holding protests on the streets just increases the suffering of the people. Everything can be resolved through proper discussions."

The appeal comes in the wake of a clash that occurred between students of Dhaka College and Dhaka University the previous night.

The Home Affairs Advisor praised the police for handling the situation calmly and expressed hope that the issue would soon be resolved.

During the same discussion, Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul described the incident as an "unfortunate event" and assured that the government would take the necessary steps to manage the situation.

This isn’t the first time authorities have urged protestors to move their actions off the streets. Just a few days earlier, on January 8, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sojjat Ali had made a similar request, asking protesters to choose open fields instead of blocking busy roads.

"Recently, many groups have been blocking roads to make their demands heard, but this causes huge traffic disruptions. I urge you to take your protests to open spaces and resolve issues through talks," said DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjad Ali.

This growing call for peaceful protests away from main roads highlights the authorities‍‍` increasing concern about maintaining public order while still respecting the right to protest.
