Reports have circulated that several top leaders of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) held a meeting with former US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas at a hotel in Cox’s Bazar.
However, NCP’s Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patoary has dismissed the claims as mere rumors and propaganda.
On Tuesday morning, four senior NCP leaders — Hasnat Abdullah, Sarjis Alam, Nasiruddin Patoary, and Dr. Tasnim Jara — traveled to Cox’s Bazar and checked into the Sea Pearl Hotel.
Around 11 AM to 12 PM, rumors began circulating that the group had held a meeting with Peter Haas, who was reportedly staying at the same hotel.
Speaking to local journalists in Cox’s Bazar, Nasiruddin Patoary strongly denied the allegation: “We had no meeting with Peter Haas. The claim is completely baseless. We’re here just for leisure. Shortly after checking into the hotel, we saw such news appear — it’s nothing but a rumor.”
Multiple senior party leaders confirmed the group’s trip to Cox’s Bazar but said they were unaware of any meeting with the former US diplomat. One high-ranking NCP leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: “They often travel together to various places, but I have no knowledge of any meeting.”
The four NCP leaders are expected to return to Dhaka by 3 PM today.
