Following heavy downpours on Friday, Khulna Medical College hospital's Covid-19 ward is inundated with rainwaters. The ward's floods are submerged under floodwaters adding to woes of the patients.
Several patients and their families complained that water flowed down the stairs into the ward, after heavy rainfall led waters to be accumulated on the hospital's rood.
Water also entered the floor through the broken windows, As it is the Covid-19 ward in which the floodwaters have entered, the patients there are bearing the heaviest burden.
The chilly weather has taken the worst toll of Covid-19 infected patients as they are already suffering from an infectious disease.
According to a report published in BDNEWS24, patients complained that flooding was a common scenario during the rainy season and the hospital authorities failed to take any action on the matter. Whenever there was flooding, patients would try to bail water out using whatever they could get their hands on.
Water enters the building whenever it rains, said Suhas Ranjan Haldar, a hospital spokesman. The truth is the building was built in haste to treat COVID patients and so there are many issues with it, the report wrote citing him.
Necessary steps are being taken to solve the problems, he added.
Khulna Met Office in-charge Amirul Azad said 45 mm of rain was recorded from 12 pm to 6 pm on Friday. The situation is likely to improve after 10 am on Saturday, he said.
