Shortly after the fall of Sheikh Hasina, the would be head of Bangladesh`s interim government landed in Dhaka on Thursday (August 8).
Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus returned home from Paris, landing at Dhaka`s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 2:10pm.
His interim government is expected to be sworn in around 8pm tonight.
Dr Yunus was welcomed by Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman, the heads of the other armed forces, leaders from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Chief Executive Officer of the election observation group “Brotee” - Sharmeen Murshid, and various civil society representatives.
In his speech delivered at the airport around 3:15pm, Dr. Yunus expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the youth, saying, "Through this revolution, a new victory has been achieved in Bangladesh. The young society made this possible, and we are deeply grateful to them."
The anti-discrimination student movement coordinators were present during his speech, having greeted him with flowers beforehand. Commenting on the current situation, Dr. Yunus assured, "You have my trust. No one will be attacked."
