In the new week starting from Sunday, no more than Tk 2 lakh cash can be withdrawn from the bank through cheques.

The central bank has sent this instruction to the banks on Saturday night showing ‍‍`security reasons‍‍`.

Any amount of money can be transferred through digital transactions, although not more than two lakh rupees can be withdrawn through cheques.

Given the ongoing situation, the Bangladesh Bank (BB) has instructed banks not to allow cash withdrawals of more than Tk 1 lakh on Thursday.

However, as per the decision taken on Wednesday night, even if a customer cannot withdraw cash, they can transfer any amount of cash and do digital transactions.

The instructions came after many politicians, businessmen, and different officials began withdrawing money from their bank accounts on Monday after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.

The central bank‍‍`s directive aims to prevent the misuse of the cash withdrawn by people, especially so that the money can‍‍`t be used in financing terrorism or violence.

Bangladesh Bank‍‍`s Executive Director and Spokesperson Md Mezbaul Haque told a newspaper that the instruction has been given due to a lack of security across the country.

"We want to discourage cash transactions amid the current situation." he added.
