The upcoming Eid-ul-Adha sees a surge in demand for sacrificial animals compared to the available supply, according to the Department of Livestock Services.
In an orientation meeting held on Wednesday (May 16) at the Department of Livestock Services, the issue was addressed to ensure the demand, supply, and smooth transportation of sacrificial animals. Fisheries and Livestock Minister Md. Abdur Rahman was present at the meeting.
For this year`s Eid-ul-Adha, there are approximately 10,729,394 demands for sacrificial animals, while there are only 10,298,367 animals prepared for sacrifice. This means there are 427,973 more animals demanded than available.
It was revealed in the meeting that there are 5,360,796 cows and buffaloes, 7,617,801 goats and sheep, and 1,850 other animals including camels.
Minister Abdur Rahman mentioned, "Law enforcement agencies are on high alert to ensure full compliance with regulations for a safe Eid-ul-Adha. Moreover, measures are being taken to ensure the safe transportation of animals from remote areas via roads and waterways. Strict vigilance has been maintained to prevent cheating and fraud by traders, including moon traders."
