BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the party welcomes the July Declaration, adding that the Chief Adviser’s announcement regarding the upcoming election will pave the way for a democratic transition in Bangladesh.
He made the remarks at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson`s office in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Wednesday (August 6). BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed was also present at the event.
Mirza Fakhrul stated that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, in a recent meeting in London, agreed on holding the next general election in February 2026. The BNP considers this announcement a historic step forward.
He added that the commitments made by political parties in the declaration, if upheld, will initiate the journey towards building a new and democratic Bangladesh.
