Mild to moderate heatwave has swept across the country's six divisions Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and Nilphamari district on Tuesday. This may continue in different districts of the country for the next few days. The Department of Meteorology has said that severe heat wave may occur in 10 districts of the country from April 15 to 21. Meherpur, Jessore, Jhenaidah, Magura, Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Natore, Pabna, Chuadanga and Kushtia districts may experience maximum day temperature of 40 degree Celsius. Temperature can rise to 45 degrees.

According to the Meteorological Department, an area where the temperature exceeds 42 degrees Celsius at two stations next to each other is defined as severe heat wave. When the temperature is 40-42 degree Celsius it is called severe heat wave. When it is 38 to 40 degree Celsius it is called moderate heat wave and when the temperature is 36 to 38 degree Celsius it is called mild heat wave.
Mild to moderate heat waves swept over 13 districts of Dhaka Division, 8 districts of Rajshahi Division, 10 districts of Khulna Division, 6 districts of Barisal Division and 11 districts of Chittagong Division, including Nilphamari on Tuesday.
In this regard, the meteorologist of the Department of Meteorology, Md. Tariful Newaz Kabir said, the heatwave situation may continue for the next three days. There may be no significant change in the situation for the next five days. As a result, the heat wave is likely to last till the 20th. However, after 20th there is a possibility of scattered rains in some parts of the country. It may not play a very effective role in lowering the overall temperature.
