The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has increased consumer-level prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The price of a 12-kg cylinder has been raised from Tk 1,728 to Tk 1,940. The revised prices were announced in a statement on Sunday and will take effect from the evening of the same day.
At the same time, the price of autogas has also been increased. The new retail price has been set at Tk 89.50 per litre, up from Tk 79.77 at the beginning of April.
Earlier in early April, LPG prices had already been raised by Tk 387, setting the 12-kg cylinder price at Tk 1,728. As a result, this marks the second price increase within a single month.
BERC said the repeated price hikes are mainly due to the international market situation and instability in the Middle East. In particular, disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, war-related tensions, and delays in LPG transportation have forced imports through alternative routes, increasing both time and costs.
The commission further noted that ongoing conflicts in the Middle East have disrupted shipping, while insurance and security costs have also risen. As a result, freight charges and traders’ premium fees for LPG imports have been temporarily readjusted to $250 per metric ton to help maintain supply stability in the country.
