Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has called on Bangladeshi expatriates to play a more active role in advancing the country’s sustainable development.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Shibley Alam, civic mayor of Tameside Council in Manchester, at his office on Sunday.

The minister said expatriates remain a vital asset for Bangladesh, contributing through their skills, experience and remittances, while also helping promote the country’s image abroad.

He noted that Bangladeshis living in the United Kingdom have long been contributing to both economic growth and democratic values.

During the meeting, Shibley Alam praised Bangladesh’s progress in women’s empowerment and expressed interest in working together to improve women’s healthcare and ensure their rights.

Both sides also expressed optimism about strengthening bilateral ties between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom in the coming years.
