A mobile court has fined a filling station Tk 20,000 for selling previously stocked fuel at higher prices, defying instructions from the district administration.
Officials said the action was taken during a drive in the town after reports that some stations had increased prices despite clear directives.
According to locals, several filling stations briefly halted sales when officials intervened, but later resumed selling fuel at higher rates.
Assistant Commissioner Shahed Hossain said the penalised station was found guilty of overcharging and was warned against repeating the violation.
He added that monitoring drives will continue across the district to ensure compliance.
Data from the Deputy Commissioner’s office shows that significant fuel stocks remain available at local stations, including diesel, petrol and octane.
District authorities have instructed all stations to sell existing stock at previous prices, while newly supplied fuel must be sold at updated government-fixed rates.
Officials said strict enforcement will continue to prevent irregularities in fuel sales.
