Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has called for restructuring the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry into a more effective and representative body free from political influence.

Speaking at a meeting with business leaders at the Ministry of Commerce, he said the apex trade body must take a more proactive role in protecting business interests and presenting demands to the government.

He stressed that FBCCI should act as a constructive partner by providing realistic feedback and policy recommendations to support informed decision-making.

The minister also highlighted the need for capable and visionary leadership drawn from within the business community to strengthen the organisation’s effectiveness.

Emphasising neutrality, he said the platform should not be used for political purposes and must serve all businesses equally.

On policy matters, he said the new import policy is in its final stage and will be announced soon.

He also noted that specialised committees involving business representatives have been formed to simplify services across key ministries, including commerce, textiles and industries.

Business leaders at the meeting shared suggestions to improve the federation’s performance and enhance its role in supporting the private sector.
