Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury held talks with Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev in Samarkand to discuss expanding cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting took place during the finance minister’s visit to Uzbekistan for the annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank Board of Governors.

During the talks, Khosru highlighted the historical and cultural ties between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan and stressed the need for stronger cooperation in trade, tourism, connectivity and people-to-people relations.

He urged Uzbekistan to consider direct air links between the two countries, including restarting flights on the Dhaka-Tashkent route.

The finance minister also called for opening an Uzbek diplomatic mission in Bangladesh and requested better market access for Bangladeshi products such as garments, medicines and jute goods.

He also sought easier visa facilities for Bangladeshi businesspeople and tourists.

Khosru invited Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to visit Bangladesh at a suitable time.

The Uzbek deputy prime minister expressed interest in strengthening economic relations and said his country is ready to work more closely with Bangladesh.

He also said Uzbekistan plans to send a business delegation to Bangladesh to explore investment and trade opportunities.
