Germany delivered a commanding performance in their opening match of the World Cup, thrashing Curaçao 7-1 to begin their campaign in emphatic fashion. Kai Havertz scored twice, while five other German players also found the net as the four-time world champions overwhelmed the tournament debutants.

The Group E clash took place in Houston, United States, on Sunday (June 14), with Curaçao making their first-ever World Cup appearance.

Germany started aggressively and took the lead as early as the sixth minute through Nmecha. However, Curaçao responded 14 minutes later when right-back Livano Comenencia fired a superb left-footed strike from inside the box past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to level the score.

The Germans quickly regained control of the match. Defender Nico Schlotterbeck restored their lead in the 38th minute with a simple header from a corner kick. Germany continued to dominate and extended their advantage deep into first-half stoppage time when Kai Havertz converted a penalty, sending Joshua Kimmich’s side into the break with a comfortable 3-1 lead.

Germany came out even stronger after halftime. Just two minutes into the second half, Jamal Musiala finished clinically from a pass by Joshua Kimmich to make it 4-1.

Relentless in attack, Germany kept piling pressure on Curaçao’s defense throughout the remainder of the match. Additional goals in the 68th, 78th, and 88th minutes from Nathaniel Brown, Deniz Undav, and Havertz completed the rout, sealing a dominant 7-1 victory for the four-time champions.

The emphatic win gives Germany a perfect start to their World Cup campaign and sends a strong message to the rest of the tournament field.
